Adding structure to the barn…
Reflecting on the second Badge Wiki barn raising (23 August 2017)
Earlier this week, around 20 people came together to continue building Badge Wiki, a new knowledge repository for the Open Badges community. Work has been continuing over the holiday period since our last barn raising session, and we both reflected on that and looked to the future.

Last time around, we focused on creating as many ‘stubs’ of pages as we could. This time, we got useful insights from Wikipedians as to good practice when it comes to building out a wiki, and identified some actions.
These actions include:
- Reviewing existing content
- Building out more article stubs
- Patrolling pages
- Finding additional content to add to the wiki under a Creative Commons license
- Sharing examples of good Open Badge designs and learning pathways
- Creating content in languages other than English and/or translating existing content
- Creating an article that discusses related technologies such as blockchain
- Adding a page on ‘Who is using badges’
- Getting Bryan Mathers’ images on the wiki
- Discussing what content might be out of scope for Badge Wiki (other than objectionable content)
- Curating videos and conceptual diagrams about badges
- Defining special interest groups (SIGs) for subsectors
- Coming up with a tagging taxonomy
- Adding a link in the main menu to ‘All Pages’
Thanks again to Participate for making this possible and for the Open Recognition Alliance for hosting us.
We’re looking forward to the next barn raising session in September. Please do join the Badge Wiki discussion group to find out more!

We Are Open Co-op works to spread the culture, processes, and benefits of openness wherever we can.
