Although it may seem slightly odd to ‘launch’ a collaborative knowledge base such as Badge Wiki, that’s exactly what we’re going to do on 1st December 2017. By launching the wiki at the European Badge Summit, we’re effectively doing two things:

  1. Drawing attention to the great work that has been happening over the past six months.
  2. Providing a call-to-action for those who might be able to contribute in future.

Our final Badge Wiki barn raising session before the launch happened earlier this week. You can catch up with what happened below:

Although attendance was down slightly due to holidays around American Thanksgiving, a number of us discussed:

  • Navigation — we agreed that the updated diagram that Bryan Mathers has produced does a great job on the front page. In addition, we’ve replicated those seven links in the sidebar.
  • Events  Nate Otto pointed out that we need a page for this, and that it should be added to the wiki sidebar.
  • Visitor ‘flow’ — to ensure that users of the wiki can situate themselves and understand what’s included, we tightened up a few aspects. This include page names, redirections, and so on.
  • Localisation —using the Multilingual plugin looks like it’s going to be slightly more complex than we originally thought, so (for the time being) we’re sticking with multiple languages within the one wiki, rather than separating them out.
  • Post-launch use of Loomio — to be discussed further, but we’ve agreed that it’s an important place to discuss meta-level issues and changes that require admin privileges.

We’ll post again on the 1st December to explain how you can get involved and promote Badge Wiki further. In the meantime, mark your calendar for the next community call, which will be on December 13th, probably at 17:00 UTC. Many thanks, as ever, to Participate and the Open Recognition Alliance.

Join our Loomio group for regular updates and to get more involved with Badge Wiki!
